Whats the Big Deal about Mars?

17 06 2007

I just read a blub on Yahoo that said “A simple theory says that Mars had water on it a million years ago.”

I say, “So what?”  What’s the big deal anyway?  Someone please tell me!

Right now it’s a big dry rock floating in space.    Why are we spending billions of dollars to find out if there was once water on Mars?  Is it because if there was, then there could have been life on Mars?  So What!!  There is no water now.

Next thing you know is the people interested will agree there was once water and then they will want  spend billion of dollars more to find a way to get there to look for proof there was once life.  Psssst!  Who cares?  Even if there was once life, it’s gone now.

I think I have the answer so they can stop spending our money looking for something that is no longer there.

Once upon a time, five million years ago on Mars there was a civiization just like us.  They had everything we have and abused the enviorment just like we do.  One day a Mars scientist had a news conference and said “The ozone layer has a hole in it and it’s getting bigger.”  All the Mars scientitss then got together to find out how bad it was and discovered that if they didn’t do something about it the planet was doomed.

After many years of arguing among themselves they found the ozone layer could not be fixed and decided to send probes out to look for possible other planets that could substain life.  When a probe gave them information that the planet it landed on could once have had water at one time, they scratched that planet off their list.  They needed a planet that could substain life now and for the future.  Then one day a probe sent back information about a planet close to them that had everything they wanted.

An announcement was put out about this finding and after a thousand years of arguing, they began building spacecraft to transpoort anyone who want to leave to the new planet.  Only a few thousand people left, mostly scientists and eviormentalists.  So four million yaers ago a bunch of people from Mars came to eath and started a new life.

The ozone layer on Mars rapidly evaporated and the planet “cooked” and became what it is today, a floating rock that once had life.

Maybe the folks on Earth now that are so intrerested in Mars are long descendents of the the original people from Mars that came here and it’s not that they care about “if there was once life on Mars”, but are homesick about where they came from?

It’s the only eplaination and a message of what can happen to us, here on planet Earth.  Stop looking for planets that “once” had water and spend the money on searching for planets that can support life when our ozone layer goes away.

Granted, we can do something about our ozone layer, but I don’t see that happening anytime in the near future.

Just think if we did “fix” the ozone layer.  We could take all the money they are spending on bogus planets and spend it on the folks right here on Earth that need help.  Oh My!!  It it possible that we on Earth could all get along?

I sure hope someone let’s me know when the spaceship is ready to go.
